United Methodists are being challenged to rethink the way our church makes contact with the world, just as Jesus’ ministry made his disciples and society rethink what faith was beyond the four walls of the church. As United Methodists, we are reminded that John Wesley proclaimed that the world is our parish. So, we’re working to help the church rethink not in terms of what it is, but what it could be . . . if all of our churches were vibrant, active places where people want to be, not just on Sundays, but all week long! And to rethink what it would mean to have the church not be just a place to go, but an active faith-engagement in the community and the world, a vision that inspires hope, faith, and action to move the church outside of the walls and make personal connections in the world around us! First UMC’s Rethink Church Team meets to discuss what that would look like and feel like for our church, and to provide goals through communication with the Administrative Council to be intentional in the work of making disciples in the outwardly-directed spirit of the early Christians.
